We see you in Spring and sometimes in Winter
Others see you in Autumn and Summer
You light up the yard when you come into sight
But it's not like a butterfly or even a hummer'
Your presence is known by your size and your color
Your rusty red breast is your heralded fame
Charcoal black upon your back and white rings 'round your eyes
Make you easy to know and call out your name
But what makes you special and fun to be 'round
Is watching you scratch and dig and churn
As you toss aside those twigs and such
To get to your prize, a fat juicy worm
We'll miss your beauty when you are gone
But others will see you in their delight
And we'll wait right here until you return
Until you are back in our yard, in full sight.
